Procession (2010)
Pigmented plaster, steel cord
8 parts, maximum height 117 cm, installation size variable (this work no longer exists)
Procession is a group of vertiginous, black-pigmented plaster casts surrounded by a loose arrangement of steel cord, deliberately occupying the window space of the gallery. Through her chosen presentation of the work, Gill allows an overall sense and experience of structure whilst challenging the perception of what it is we are meant to be looking at.
Each cast element that makes up the sum of Procession has an interior space running through the length of the form. By literally opening up the sculptural object, Gill is interested in questioning what is hidden or contained in metaphors and coded symbolic exchange.’
